Employment in Sustainable Transport Study – Information Required
We have recently been appointed to undertake a study which examines the employment impacts of the sustainable transport sector. Although the environmental benefits of investment in sustainable transport are well documented, there is a lack of information relating to the employment created through investing in and maintaining major walking, cycling, bus and rail infrastructure schemes. At a time when there will be huge competition for scarce public funding, it will be important for all industry groups to demonstrate their job creating potential and the sustainable transport sector is no exception.
In light of this, CBT with Sustrans and pteg have commissioned us to undertake a study which addresses this knowledge gap. This study will examine direct employment in light rail, rail, bus, cycling and walking as well as relevant supply chains, highlighting a series of case studies to support the figures developed.
As part of the study, we are keen to draw on any relevant information which organisations already hold in relation to employment or skills in the sector, as well as any studies which have been published relating to the employment impact of major sustainable transport projects or programmes (we are primarily interested in employment in the sector, not the wider economic impacts). If you have any existing work or information which you feel might be useful for this study, please contact a member of the study team at ekosgen using the details below:
