Sheffield’s Two Universities Join Forces in City Region Economy Impact Study
We have been commissioned to assess the impact and role of the two universities in the economic regeneration of the Sheffield City-Region. The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University are working together on the study with the support of the South Yorkshire Partnership (bringing together the sub-region’s public, private, voluntary and community sectors) and funding from Yorkshire Forward, the Regional Development Agency. It will assess the Universities’ contribution to the City Region economy and its wider regeneration. It will assess a range of benefits including their direct and indirect economic impact. And contribution to economic development, in terms of applying the findings of research within industry or the supply of graduates locally, for instance. The Universities maintain valuable local and regional partnerships with major institutions such as teaching hospitals and key companies. They have strong international relationships and can make a positive contribution to the urban environment. Sheffield Office Director, Karl Dalgleish, states "the study will help the Universities to illustrate the significant tangible role they play within the City Region economy and beyond which often goes unrecognised".
