Westfield Lane, Wakefield, Wakefield Metropolitan District Council (WMBC)
The Westfield Lane Masterplan is a 15-year, housing-based plan seeking to reposition the town of South Elmsall and wider south Wakefield District, by adding value to the regeneration of the area through improving image, health and housing. The area is set to benefit from approximately 600 new mixed tenure houses, supported by improvements in community facilities, education and environment.
Woking with Building Design Partnership, King Sturge and Gleeds, we prepared the plan baseline, and developed the Implementation Framework and Delivery Plan elements of the Masterplan.
The new masterplan complements the English Partnerships-led regeneration of Frickley Colliery which will become a new Country Park. The Plan focuses on the creation of ‘green links’ between the Country Park and South Elmsall town centre, integrating the two regeneration initiatives.
The exploitation of the existing green-space network is a key feature of the plan and the reclaimed disused colliery will provide a major focus for the Westfield Lane Community. The plan is due to be adopted by Wakefield MBC as Supplementary Planning Guidance, and delivery of the plan will be taken forward by Wakefield MBC and Partners, including English Partnerships.
