Grantham and Newark Growth Point Delivery Plans
We areacutely aware of the recent priority placed by the Government on ensuring that there is an increased supply of housing to meet anticipated demand throughout the country over the coming years. We are currently working at the forefront of a number of related assignments.
We recently worked for South Kesteven District Council and Lincolnshire County Council to producethedraft Programme of Developmentfor Grantham, submitted to the department of Communities and Local Government at the end of July, as part of the new cross-GovernmentGrowth Points initiative.Feedbackreceived from CLG on the work which we undertook for Grantham was extremely positive, describing the Growth Plan for Granthamas one of the best which the department had seen. We are currently finalising the Programme of Development for submission on the 1st October. Following our success on this commission we were appointed by Newark Council to strengthen their submission, for consideration through the same round of review.
The Growth Pointinitiativeis designed to provide support to local communitiesthat wish to pursue large scale and sustainable growth, with a focus on deliveringadditionalnew housing with a high quality of design, through a partnership with Government.A total of29areas have now been named as New Growth Points across the East, South East, South West, East Midlands and West Midlands. Other local authorities throughout the country are now being invited to apply to become a Growth Point. These Growth Point areaswill share in a substantial Government funding pot to support growth-related studies, masterplanning, capacity-building and infrastructure improvements - the money helping areas toovercome local infrastructure problems, unlock sites for new housing and enhance the local environment.
The Programmes of Development we produced for South Kesteven District Council and Lincolnshire County Councilset out the rationale for increased housing growth withinGrantham, a housing trajectory setting out the plan to deliverup to 9,000new homesover theperiod to 2026and a detailed funding request for infrastructure and capacity support fromCentral Government to enable this step change in growth. In order to inform the production of the plan we held a number of workshops with key partners from the area in order to establish a shared vision and objectives for growth in Grantham as well as evaluating the level of financial assistance which would be required to deliver housing growth in the town. In addition to this, the work which we undertookprovided an analysis ofthe economic role and future economic growth potential of the town, setting out the key future infrastructure requirements and strategic priorities necessary to deliver economic growth to compliment the increase inhousing development planned for Grantham.
