Sheffield Economic Masterplan, Sheffield City Council
In collaboration with EDAW, we were commissioned by Sheffield City Council to provide a distinctive and inspirational Economic Masterplan for Sheffield, which is capable of transforming Sheffield’s economic performance. The Masterplan provides a unified strategic framework for the future economic and physical development of Sheffield which will return Sheffield to the premier league of European cities.
The Masterplan focuses on how Sheffield can close its £1 billion shortfall against its potential output by identifying eight key priorities for the City, including the transformation of the city centre into a commercial and knowledge centre, creating a high productivity and high value added economy and ensuring that the Sheffield workforce is equipped to deal with the demands of a highly competitive knowledge based economy.
The Masterplan also identifies the potential for developing a second UK Growth Pole in the North of England. The Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield City Regions have the potential to work together as a single northern regional economy of European significance, with a population in excess of London and access to a considerable market and asset base.
