Care as a Barrier to Employment and Training
The Brief: Identify the barriers to Carers wishing to combine employment, training or Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) with their caring activities and then to produce a Regional Policy to address these barriers. Using our experience of quantitative and qualitative research techniques and our brokering and partnership building skills we delivered the required outputs. The study resulted in the first Regional Policy for Carers in the UK.
The company was commissioned by the South West Employment Forum to collate evidence on the extent to which providing care acts as a barrier to employment and training, to identify current funding and initiatives and develop actions to address gaps. This was conducted through in depth desk research, interviews and workshops with carers and key stakeholders. The research and policy development work among Carers identified the great significance of Carers to the South West economy. It led to the first Regional Policy for Carers in the UK, with the goal of helping them to combine employment, training and IAG with their caring activities.
