Developing Learner Feedback Mechanisms, Northern TUC

We were commissioned to undertake research into how effective existing feedback mechanisms are in capturing learner views of course provision are and to test a number of alternative mechanisms that could improve the quality and timeliness of learner feedback in order to provide the information required to drive up the quality of provision.

A series of workshops were held with learners as a means of gathering their views on existing feedback and learner support mechanisms as well as to find out how learners would like to be able to feedback their views on the e-learning provision they have engaged with. An on-line survey tool was also tested with learners to see how effective this means of providing feedback would be.

The research found learners would welcome the opportunity to provide more structured, regular feedback on their learning experiences with both the focus group approach and the on-line survey approach having merit for learners. The findings were used to develop potential models of feedback collection to be introduced by the Unionlearn team in the Northern region, with a toolkit developed through the research provided for the Unionlearn team to begin implementation of the new feedback systems. The findings disseminated via the Northern TUC’s quarterly magazine and have proved to be of value to the client.

“I very much like the report and the information it provides us with is extremely useful.”
