Pathways to Employment through Sport Mid- Term Evaluation

The Brief: To evaluate the Pathways to Employment through Sport Programme, a key aspect of which was to examine the extent to which output and outcome indicators captured the range of activity being delivered. Recommendations were made to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the management and delivery of the programme during its second phase.

We recently undertook the mid term evaluation of the Pathways to Employment through Sport Programme, an innovative, flagship learning and skills Programme funded by Advantage West Midlands through the South Black Country and West Birmingham Regeneration Zone.

The evaluation examined a number of projects in depth to explore how sport can provide routes back into training and employment for disadvantage young people, social excluded hard to reach groups and the long term unemployed. A key aspect of this study was to examine the extent to which the RDA’s Tier 3 and Tier 2 output and outcome indicators fully captured the range of activity being delivered by the Programme.

Recommendations were made to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the management and delivery of the Programme during its second phase. A future strategy workshop was also held to discuss and agree how the key actions and investments funded by the Programme could be taken forward in the future.
