Evaluation of Renaissance Towns & Cities

We are near completion of an evaluation of one of Yorkshire Forward's biggest investments - Renaissance Towns and Cities. The Programme is operating across 19 towns and investing resources, putting in place a fairly unique philosophy regarding urban regeneration. The aim, ultimately, is to make the towns of Yorkshire and Humber great places. The Agency realises that this will not happen overnight and all the plans are long-term, at least 25 years old.

We are undertaking an interim evaluation to identify the economic impacts that have occurred to date, what will likely to occur and, equally as important, to report upon its qualitative benefits. This includes changing attitudes towards design quality, which have been reflected directly in the development taking place and in setting the standard for other local schemes.

In carrying out the study, the team has travelled far and wide across the region. Bespoke research methods have been designed for each town, combining quantitative and qualitative data.

The study will be completed by autumn 2008 and will be available on Yorkshire Futures website.
