Investigation of the Opportunities for Linkages Arising from the Tees Valley City Region

We were commissioned by LSC North East to investigate the opportunities for linkages arising from the Tees Valley City Region. Considerable progress has been made in developing plans and strategies for the economic transformation of the Tees Valley. The five Tees Valley authorities have established a number of processes for closer joint and collaborative working to tackle the city region’s economic issues and exploit the many opportunities being created. However, mechanisms to involve the wider city region partners in County Durham and North Yorkshire are less well developed.

The study involved a review of existing patterns of economic linkages, and a consultation programme with partners across the city region and its hinterland. Key opportunities for closer working with partners in County Durham and North Yorkshire were identified - these ranged from reviewing membership of city region structures, to extending city region research reports to cover County Durham and North Yorkshire where relevant, to working together on joint tourism initiatives. The final part of the study involved producing an action plan to take forward the key priorities.
