Economic Impact Assessment for V&A Dundee Museum in Year 1

Since May 2018, ekosgen has been working on a very exciting project to assess the impact of V&A Dundee for the city, the region and Scotland. With visitor numbers far exceeding expectations, throughout the year we had a suspicion that the impacts would in turn be greater than expected, but we had to keep that to ourselves for obvious reasons. Our report has now been published and has received a great deal of media attention, as might be expected.

Our work demonstrated that in Dundee, V&A has provided 370 new jobs through the posts it has created, the contractors it uses, the supply chain it buys from and the money that visitors have spent in the local economy. In terms of GVA (economic value), it has generated £10.9m net in Dundee and an additional £3.8m in the wider Scottish economy.  This is a remarkable achievement and our research suggests that going forward, even more people will travel from further afield to visit V&A Dundee and spend time in the city which can only enhance the benefits for people living, working and learning in Dundee.
